The Quartz family comprises a tremendous array of minerals, including Amethyst,
Citrine, Rose Quartz, Smoky Quartz, Milky Quartz, Aventurine, Cat's Eye, and
Tigereye. It develops in many different environments and there are excellent
sources throughout North America and the world. It is used in glass making
and the manufacture of radios and telephones. Quartz may be presented either
faceted or as a Cabochon in the jewelry trade. The Quartz mineral is very common, and generally forms in all types of rocks as mineral veins, growing as hexagonal prisms. The wide array of colouring for Quartz makes it a source of many of the precious gemstones seen on this site, including amethyst and citrine.
